I started my camera career in traditional film and was mentored, amongst others, by one of Jacques Cousteau’s diving colleagues. I have 30 years experience as a Lighting Cameraman/DP, 19 years for SABC TV News. With wide-ranging expertise in African, Asian & international filming, I’m an expert in helicopter aerials, have great sea legs and am fully competent with HD filming and higher; I filmed four times in the Antarctic – a place on this earth which I love, despite the extreme temperatures and camera challenges. My three specialities are helicopter filming, lighting and in particular marine filming. For the latter I have special equipment comprising of three camera stabilisers called 'Perfect Horizon', designed specially for surface water filming. These are the only stabilisers of its kind outside the USA and I own the exclusive licence for their use. They were used with great success for sea or river sequences on James Bond Spectre, Outlander, Sing Street, Vera and documentaries for Natural history and commercials. I also recently won the TMT Media Awards 2016 for the best freelance Camera Stabiliser Specialist in the UK.
